Finding a Waterfall
There are several ways to find a waterfall on this site. First, you may want to visit the map to see all the waterfalls on a big regional map. From there you can click a falls for more information. Or, you can search for a waterfall to see information about that falls on its own page. Finally, you can look at a list of waterfalls that we know about to see all of the falls in alphabetical order (with links to their pages).
Waterfall News
New Waterfall Added
I had the pleasure of hiking to a new waterfall in deep snow. This is the Waterfall on Hickory Branch in the Curtis Creek area near Old Fort, NC. On the way there, it was obvious from the complete lack of other tracks in the 8" of white stuff that covered the trail that I was the first one to hike there in several days. That's one of the things you can enjoy in the winter. Areas that would normally be crawling with visitors during the summer might go stretches of several days without anyone coming by when the weather is cool. So get out and enjoy the solitude at a waterfall near you!
Links, Plugs, and Inspiration
Though we hope to provide detailed coverage of the subject here, no research on the waterfalls in North Carolina would be complete without first looking at these two other sources, at least. Buy a copy of Kevin Adams' book "North Carolina Waterfalls: A Hiking and Photography Guide" online (or in local bookstores). It is the best one out there. Next, check out Rich Stevenson's web site ncwaterfalls.com, the most comprehensive on the Internet. Many thanks to these and other waterfall enthusiasts who have pointed us in the right direction all those times!

Featured Falls
Setrock Creek Falls runs clear and cold all summer long as it drains the slopes of Mount Mitchell. Located near the Black Mountain Campground, the falls is accessible by a pretty, short hike along the Toe River, with a neat footbridge along the way. It's easy enough for the whole family to enjoy, and perfect for the kids - there is a large, shallow pool at the base that is great for wading and playing!
